SELPHY CP1500

Last updated August 21, 2026

The Canon SELPHY CP1500 is a compact photo printer built for one job: turning photos on your phone, camera, or memory card into physical prints, right where you are. It uses dye-sublimation printing rather than inkjet, so prints come out completely dry, water-resistant, and ready to handle the moment they finish. Print sizes run from postcard-size photos down to small square and label stickers, depending on the media cassette you load. It connects over Wi-Fi, USB, and directly from an SD card, and with an optional battery pack it prints away from a power outlet entirely. It suits families, event photographers, and anyone who wants prints in hand instead of another folder on a phone.

Troubleshooting Steps

Issue: Prints have lines, streaks, or missing colour bands

  • Check that the ink cassette isn't near the end of its roll
  • Open the ink cassette compartment and confirm the ink sheet isn't torn, creased, or slack
  • Gently take up any slack in the ink sheet by turning the spool before reinserting the cassette

Issue: Paper won't feed or jams during printing

  • Confirm the paper cassette matches the ink cassette size — mismatched sets won't feed correctly
  • Load no more than the maximum number of sheets for your cassette
  • Don't touch the print surface or bend the sheets before loading, since handling marks cause misfeeds
  • Never pull the paper while it's moving in and out during printing, as this is normal dye-sublimation operation, not a jam

Issue: The paper moves in and out several times per print

  • This is normal. Dye-sublimation printers pass the sheet through once for each colour layer plus the protective coat
  • Leave the printer alone until the print fully ejects and the process completes

Issue: Printer won't connect to Wi-Fi

  • Confirm you're on a 2.4GHz network, since SELPHY models don't support 5GHz
  • Use Wi-Fi Direct to connect your phone straight to the printer if there's no router available
  • Scan the QR code on the printer with the SELPHY Photo Layout app for a guided connection
  • Move the phone closer to the printer during initial pairing

Issue: Phone can't find the printer in the app

  • Confirm the phone and printer are on the same network, not a guest network
  • Close and reopen the SELPHY Photo Layout app, then retry the connection
  • Turn the printer off and on, since first-attempt connection failures are common and usually succeed on retry

Issue: Colours look different from the screen

  • Turn on the auto-correction option in the printer menu or app
  • Remember that dye-sublimation prints render colour differently from a backlit phone screen, so some shift is expected
  • Try a different finish option, such as glossy or satin, if your model supports it
