LiDE 120

Last updated August 21, 2026

The CanoScan LiDE-120 is a compact flatbed scanner built for everyday document and photo scanning at home or in a small office. It connects to a computer with a single USB cable, which handles both power and data, so there's no separate power brick to plug in. Setup takes just a few minutes once the driver and scanning software are installed. It's best suited for people who need clean, high-resolution scans of paperwork, receipts, and old photographs rather than high-volume office scanning.

Troubleshooting Steps

Issue: Scanner isn't detected by the computer

  • Unplug and reconnect the USB cable, ideally directly into the computer rather than a hub
  • Try a different USB port, preferably a USB 3.0 port
  • Confirm the driver is installed and matches your operating system version
  • Restart the computer after installing or reinstalling the driver

Issue: Scans come out streaky or with lines

  • Clean the glass platen with a soft, lint-free cloth
  • Check for dust or debris on the underside of the lid
  • Avoid pressing down hard on thick documents, which can shift the sensor alignment

Issue: Scanning software won't open or keeps crashing

  • Update to the latest version of IJ Scan Utility from Canon's official site
  • Reinstall the driver package rather than just the utility app
  • Check that your OS version is still supported by the current driver release

Issue: Colors look faded or inaccurate in scans

  • Turn on the fade correction and color restore options in the scan settings
  • Recalibrate by running a fresh Auto Scan rather than reusing old presets
  • Make sure the original document or photo is clean and flat against the glass

Issue: Mac won't recognize the scanner after a macOS update

  • Reinstall the latest Mac driver, since major macOS updates sometimes break older driver versions
  • Check System Settings > Privacy & Security to make sure the driver has the permissions it needs
  • Use Apple's built-in Image Capture app as a fallback if the Canon utility won't launch
