Overview
The Canon PIXUS XK50 is an inkjet multifunction printer designed for high-quality photo printing. It is equipped with multiple connectivity options and a six-color individual ink system to produce detailed and vibrant images.
Features
- All-in-one functionality: It can print, scan, and copy documents, making it a versatile device for home and small office use.
- Fast printing speeds: It is rated to print at 15 pages per minute (ppm) for monochrome and 10 ppm for color documents.
- Individual ink tanks: The use of separate ink tanks for each color is more economical, as you only need to replace the specific color that runs out.
- Wireless connectivity: The printer supports multiple wireless options, including Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct, and Bluetooth, for easy printing from various devices.
- Mobile and cloud printing: You can print from your smartphone or tablet using the Canon PRINT app and access online cloud storage services to print your files. It also supports AirPrint for iOS devices.
Unboxing & Initial Setup
- Remove all packaging material and protective tapes from the printer
- Take out documentation material, power cord and other accessories from the box.
- Connect the power cord and turn ON the printer
- Install the ink cartridges
- Load paper into the paper tray

Canon XK50 setup on Windows
Setting up Guide for Windows:
- Download the software
- Click the Download button to get the setup file. This will download the driver and software package for your printer.
- Run the setup file
- Locate the downloaded file and double-click it to begin the installation.
- Connect to the wireless network
- On the “Select Connection Method” screen, choose Wireless LAN Connection and follow the prompts.
- The setup program will search for your printer on the network.
- During the setup process to configure the wireless connection. The setup wizard will guide you through this if it is necessary.
- If the printer is not found automatically, you may need to use the Wi-Fi Setup Wizard on the printer’s control panel. The setup utility will provide instructions for this. After the connection is complete, you will be prompted to unplug the USB cable if you used it.
- Complete the installation
- The installation is complete when you see a “Setup Complete” message. You can now perform a test print to confirm the printer is working correctly.
Canon XK50 setup on macOS
Setting up Guide for Mac:
- Install the software.
- Open your Downloads folder and double-click the .file
- Double-click the Master Setup or Installer.pkg file to begin the installation.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to install the software. You will be guided through the process of connecting your printer to your Wi-Fi network.
- Add the printer to your Mac. When prompted by the installation, the software will automatically guide you to add the printer through your Mac’s system settings.
- Manual setup
- Wireless connection:Connect to your Wi-Fi. On the printer’s control panel, find and use the wireless setup option to connect the printer to your Wi-Fi network.
- Open Printers & Scanners. On your Mac, click the Apple logo > System Settings (or System Preferences on older macOS versions) > Printers & Scanners.
- Add the printer. Click the Add Printer, Scanner, or Fax button.
Canon XK50 setup on Android
Setting up Guide for Android:
- Install the Canon PRINT app
- Open the Google Play Store on your Android device.
- Search for “Canon PRINT Inkjet/SELPHY” and tap Install.
- Open the app once the installation is complete.
- Add your printer to the app
- In the Canon PRINT app, tap Add Printer or the Add/Switch icon.
- Confirm that your Android device is on the same network as your printer.
- The app will now search for printers on your network. Tap the image of your Canon XK50 when it appears.
- The app will ask you to confirm your wireless network’s name. Tap Yes.
- Enter the password for your wireless router. Tap OK to send the network information to the printer.
- Print from your Android device
- After the setup is complete, you can print directly from the Canon PRINT app by selecting Photo Print or Document Print.
Canon XK50 setup on Chromebook
Setting up Guide for Chromebook:
- Add the printer to your Chromebook
- Once the printer is connected to the network, your Chromebook can find it.
- Click the clock in the bottom-right corner of your Chromebook’s screen.
- Click the Settings gear icon.
- In the Settings menu, scroll down and select Advanced.
- In the “Print and scan” section, click on Printers.
- Your Chromebook will search for available printers on the same network. When you see your Canon XK50 appear, click the Save or Set up button next to it. The printer will now be added to your profile.
Troubleshooting Steps
- Cartridges: Ensure both ink cartridges are correctly inserted and clicked into place, as the printer will not work if they are not.
- Ink: Check that the ink levels are not critically low. If one cartridge is low, the printer may not print.
- Cleaning: Clean any ink residue from the metal contacts on the cartridges and on the printer using a lint-free cloth.
- Reset the printer: Some Canon printers have a fault reset feature. You can try holding the cancel print button for five to six seconds to clear most errors.
- Firmware: Check the Canon support site for any available firmware updates for the M50 and install them if necessary.
- Error codes: If you see an error code on the camera, look it up in the manual or on the Canon website for specific troubleshooting steps.
