Troubleshooting Steps

  1. Cartridges: Ensure both ink cartridges are correctly inserted and clicked into place, as the printer will not work if they are not.
  2. Ink: Check that the ink levels are not critically low. If one cartridge is low, the printer may not print.
  3. Cleaning: Clean any ink residue from the metal contacts on the cartridges and on the printer using a lint-free cloth.
  4. Reset the printer: Some Canon printers have a fault reset feature. You can try holding the cancel print button for five to six seconds to clear most errors.
  5. Firmware: Check the Canon support site for any available firmware updates for the M50 and install them if necessary.
  6. Error codes: If you see an error code on the camera, look it up in the manual or on the Canon website for specific troubleshooting steps.
