Overview
Canon MAXIFY iB4020 is a high speed printer which delivers up to 30,000 page duty cycle. It supports wireless printing. It also has advanced Auto Sheet Feeder. Canon MAXIFY iB4020 produces smudge resistant prints.

Unboxing & Initial Setup
- Carefully unpack your Canon iB4020 printer and remove all the protective materials.
- Locate the power cord provided with the printer. Connect one end of the power cord to the printer’s power input port, and the other end to a nearby power outlet.
- Open the paper tray located at the front of the printer. Adjust the paper guides to match the size of the paper you will be using. Load a stack of paper into the tray, making sure it is aligned properly and the guides are snug against the paper.
- The Canon iB4020 printer uses individual ink cartridges. Open the ink cartridge compartment cover located on the top of the printer. Insert the ink cartridges into their respective slots, following the color-coded labels and making sure they snap into place securely.
- Press the power button on the printer to turn it on. The printer will go through an initial setup process. Follow any instructions displayed on the printer’s control panel, if applicable.
- Printer not connecting to wi-fi:
- Possible Causes: Incorrect password, weak, signal or outdated firmware.
- Solutions:
- Ensure your Wi-Fi password is correct
- Place the printer close to the router
- Re-run Easy Wireless Connect
- Press Setup >Wi-Fi Setup >Easy Wireless Connect
- Restart the router and printer
- Check for firmware updates via Canon’s official website
- Print Not Detected by computer or mobile:
- Solutions:
- Ensure both printer and device are on the same Wi-Fi network
- Restart your printer and device
- Reinstall the Canon PRINT Inkjet/SELPHY app (for mobile)
- For USB connection, ensure the cable is securely connected
- On Windows/Mac, reinstall the printer driver
- Solutions:
- Paper Jam:
- Solutions:
- Turn off the printer
- Gently remove jammed paper from the rear tray, output slot, or inside the printer
- Check for torn paper pieces
- Restart the printer
- Solutions:
- Poor Print Quality (Faded, Streaks, Missing Colors):
- Solution:
- Check ink levels and replace cartridges if needed
- Run Print Head Cleaning:
- Press Setup >Maintenance>Cleaning
- Perform Print Head Alignment via the same menu
- Ensure you’re using compatible paper

Canon iB4020 setup on Windows
WIFI Setup
- Prepare the printer:
- Press the Setup Button.
- Press the OK Button.
- Press the Stop Button.
- Use the arrow keys to display Other setup. Press the OK Button.
- Use the arrow keys to display Cableless setup. Press the OK Button.
- Printer is now ready for setup.
- Download the Drivers:
- Download and install the driver from the bottom of the page.
- Once the installation is completed, run the installed file.
- Print the Test page:
- Print a test page to confirm the setup.
USB Setup (Wired Setup):
- Download the Drivers:
- Download and install the necessary drivers from the bottom of the page.
- Once the driver installation is completed, run the installed file.
- Connect the USB Cable to your printer:
- Plug the USB cable to your printer and the other end to your PC.
- Go to the settings of your PC.
- Search for bluetooth and devices.
- Click on Printers and Scanners.
- From the available printers list select your Canon MAXIFY iB4020.
- Print the Test page:
- Print a test page to confirm the setup.

Wi-Fi/Wireless:
- Download Drivers:
- Download the driver package from the bottom of the page.
- Once the installation is completed , run the installed file.
- Prepare the Printer:
- Press the Setup Button.
- Press the OK Button.
- Press the Stop Button.
- Use the arrow keys to display Other setup. Press the OK Button.
- Use the arrow keys to display Cableless setup. Press the OK Button.
- Printer is now ready for setup.
- Add Printer:
- Open the system preferences > Printers & Scanners.
- Select your printer and click Add.
- Print the Test page:
- Print a test page to confirm the setup.
Wired/USB Connection:
- Download Drivers:
- Download the driver package from the bottom of the page.
- Once the installation is completed , run the file.
- Connect the USB Cable to your printer:
- Plug the USB cable to your printer and the other end to your Mac.
- On your Mac click on the system preference option.
- Now click on Printer and Scanners.
- The available printers list will appear on the screen, select your Canon MAXIFY iB4020.
- Print the Test page:
- Print a test page to confirm the setup.
Canon iB4020 setup on iPhone & iPad
- Connect to the Wifi:
- Turn on your Canon MAXIFY iB4020.
- Make sure your Iphone/Ipad is connected to the secure internet connection.
- Ensure that your printer and device are on the same network.
- Install the Canon PRINT Inkjet/SELPHY App:
- Go to the app store.
- Search for the “Canon PRINT Inkjet/SELPHY App”.
- Download and install the app.
- Add printer:
- Go to the Canon PRINT Inkjet/SELPHY app.
- Now follow the on-screen instructions to add your printer.
- App will search for the available printers, Select your Canon MAXIFY iB4020 from the available list.
- Click on Add printer.
- Print the Test page:
- Print a test page to confirm the setup.
Canon iB4020 setup on Android
- Turn on the Printer:
a. To turn on the printer, plug in the power cord and press the power button. - Connect the Printer to wifi:
a. Select wifi Connection.
b. Enter the password.
c. Press and hold the Wi-Fi button on the printer until the Wi-Fi lamp blinks.
d. Connect Canon MAXIFY iB4020 to your Wi-Fi network. - Install the Canon PRINT Inkjet/SELPHY App:
a. Open the Play Store on your Phone.
b. Search for “Canon PRINT Inkjet/SELPHY”.
c. Tap Download and install the app. - Connect Printer to Wi-Fi Using App:
a. In the Canon PRINT app, click “Add Printer”.
b. Select “Register Printer” > “Connect via Wireless Router”.
c. App will automatically detect your printer.
d. Choose your Wi-Fi network and enter the password to connect. - Print the Test page:
a. Print a test page to confirm the setup.
Canon iB4020 setup on Chromebook
Wireless/Wifi Connection:
- Connect the printer to Wifi connection:
- Choose your wifi connection from the available networks.
- Enter the password.
- Wait until the printer displays connected.
- Add Printer:
- Click the Settings icon.
- In the Settings menu, click on Advanced at the bottom.
- Click Printing and then Printers.
- Your Canon MAXIFY iB4020 should appear in the list if it’s connected to the same Wi-Fi.
- Click Add.
- Print the Test page.
Wired/USB Connection:
- Connect the printer to USB Cable:
- Plug the USB Cable into the printer and the other end to your Chromebook.
- Add printer:
- Click the Settings icon.
- In the settings menu, click on Advanced at the bottom.
- Click Printing and then printers.
- Click on the Add Printer option.
- Your Canon MAXIFY iB4020 should appear in the list if it’s connected to the same Wi-Fi.
- Click Add.
- Print the Test page.
Troubleshooting Steps
