Overview
The Canon MAXIFY GX6160 Mega Tank printer is a high-volume, 3-in-1 multifunction printer designed for productive environments. It includes a 50-sheet automatic document feeder (ADF), high-capacity front and rear paper feeding (350 sheets total), and a 2.7-inch color touchscreen.
Features
- Connectivity: The GX6160 offers a variety of connection options including Wi-Fi, Ethernet, USB, and direct mobile printing.
- Print Quality: The printer achieves a print resolution of 600 x 1200 dpi.
- Print Speed: It can print black and white documents at 24 images per minute (ipm) and color documents at 15.5 ipm, according to Canon Australia.
- Ink System: The printer utilizes MegaTank refillable ink tanks, specifically the GI-66 series for black, cyan, magenta, and yellow.
- User Interface: A 2.7-inch color touchscreen allows for easy navigation and control.
Unboxing & Initial Setup
- Remove all packaging material and protective tapes from the printer
- Take out documentation material, power cord and other accessories from the box.
- Connect the power cord and turn ON the printer
- Install the ink cartridges
- Load paper into the paper tray

Canon GX6160 setup on Windows
Setting up Guide for Windows:
1. Network Connection (if applicable): If connecting to a network, “Setup Guide to connect the printer to your wireless router. Ensure your computer or tablet is connected to the same network.
- USB Connection (if applicable): If using a USB connection, connect the printer to your computer with a USB cable.
2. Installation:
- Automatic Driver Installation (Network/USB):
- If the printer is connected to the network or via USB, the printer driver should install automatically.
3.Add Printer (if needed):
- If the printer driver doesn’t install automatically, you may need to manually add the printer in your operating system’s settings.
4.Test Print:
- Once the driver is installed, you can perform a test print to verify the setup.

Setting up Guide for MAC;
1. Download the Software:
- Locate the software downloads for your operating system (macOS).
- Download the necessary drivers and setup software.
2. Install the Software:
- Locate the downloaded file and double-click to start the installation.
- install the software.
3. Connect the Printer to Wi-Fi:
- Turn on your printer.
- Connect it to your Wi-Fi network.
4. Add the Printer on your Mac:
- Go to System Settings on your Mac.
- Click on “Printers & Scanners”.
- Add a printer.
- Choose the appropriate drivers or software to use with the printer.
- Click “Add” to complete the process.
5. Print a Test Page:
- After adding the printer, you can print a test page to verify the setup.
- Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners, select your printer, and click “Open Print Queue”.
- Click the “Print” button and select “Print Test Page”.
Canon GX6160 setup on Chromebook
Setting up Guide for Chromebook:
1. Power on:
- Locate the power button on your Chromebook and press it to turn on the device.
2. Language and Network:
- Choose your preferred language and keyboard settings, then select “Let’s go”. Connect to a Wi-Fi network by selecting it from the list and entering the password if required.
3.Enter your Google Account email or phone number and password. If you don’t have a Google Account, you can create one or browse as a guest.
4. Continue Setup:
- Follow any remaining on-screen instructions, such as accepting terms of service and potentially setting up accessibility features or connecting to your Android phone for quick setup.
5. Finalize:
- Once signed in, your Chromebook will finalize the setup process, potentially downloading updates and syncing your data.
Wireless/Wifi Connection:
- Connect the printer to Wifi connection:
- Choose your wifi connection from the available networks.
- Enter the password.
- Wait until the printer displays connected.
- Add Printer:
- Click the Settings icon.
- In the Settings menu, click on Advanced at the bottom.
- Click Printing and then Printers.
- Your Canon imagePRESS C170 should appear in the list if it’s connected to the same Wi-Fi.
- Click Add.
- Print the Test page.
Wired/USB Connection:
- Connect the printer to USB Cable:
- Plug the USB Cable into the printer and the other end to your Chromebook.
- Add printer:
- Click the Settings icon.
- In the settings menu, click on Advanced at the bottom.
- Click Printing and then printers.
- Click on the Add Printer option.
- Your Canon imagePRESS C170 should appear in the list if it’s connected to the same Wi-Fi.
- Click Add.
- Print the Test page.
Troubleshooting Steps

- Look for any error codes or messages on the printer’s LCD screen or computer. These messages can provide clues about the problem.
