Requirements & Prerequisite

Gather the following items before you begin setup. Tick each one as you get it.

Overview

Canon GM2090 is a high performance monochrome printer. It is a cost efficient printer as it uses a refillable ink tank system. It is suitable for offices and businesses with high-volume printing needs. Canon GM2090 delivers fast and good quality printing.

Unboxing & Initial Setup

  1. Take the printer out of the box.
  2. Remove the tape and the protective material.
  3. Open the top cover and remove the tape from inside.
  4. Open the print head locking cover, peel the protective tape off the print head.
  5. Install the print head and close the print head locking cover.
  6. Press the joint button firmly until you hear the click.
  7. Remove the tank cap, open the ink tank cover.
  8. Grasp and remove the tank cap.
  9. Open the ink bottle cap and pour the ink.
  10. Close the ink tank and top cover.
  11. Connect the power cord to turn the printer on.
  12. Load paper.

Canon GM2090 setup on Windows

  1. Take the printer out of the box.
  2. Remove the tape and the protective material.
  3. Open the top cover and remove the tape from inside.
  1. Open the print head locking cover, peel the protective tape off the print head. 
  2. Install the print head and close the print head locking cover.
  3. Press the joint button firmly until you hear the click.
  4. Remove the tank cap, open the ink tank cover.
  5. Grasp and remove the tank cap.
  6. Open the ink bottle cap and pour the ink.
  7. Close the ink tank and top cover.
  8. Connect the power cord to turn the printer on.
  9. Load paper.

WIFI Setup

  1. Prepare the printer:
    • Press and hold the Wireless button on the printer for about three seconds until the Wi-Fi lamp lights up.
    • Confirm the power lamp starts flashing, indicating it is in pairing mode.
    • Once the power lamp becomes stable. Your printer is connected.
  2. Download the Drivers:
    • Download and install the driver from the bottom of the page.
    • Once the installation is completed, run the installed file.
  3. Print the Test page:
    • Print a test page to confirm the setup.

USB Setup (Wired Setup):

  1. Download the Drivers:
    • Download and install the necessary drivers from the bottom of the page.
    • Once the driver installation is completed, run the installed file.
  2. Connect the USB Cable to your printer:
    • Plug the USB cable to your printer and the other end to your PC.
    • Go to the settings of your PC.
    • Search for bluetooth and devices.
    • Click on Printers and Scanners.
    • From the available printers list select your Canon GM2090.
  3. Print the Test page:
    • Print a test page to confirm the setup.

Wi-Fi/Wireless:

  1. Download the Drivers:
    • Download and install the driver from the bottom of the page.
    • Once the installation is completed, run the installed file.
  2. Prepare the printer:
    • Press and hold the Wireless button on the printer for about three seconds until the Wi-Fi lamp lights up.
    • Confirm the power lamp starts flashing, indicating it is in pairing mode.
    • Once the power lamp becomes stable. Your printer is connected.
  3. Add Printer:
    • Open the system preferences > Printers & Scanners.
    • Select your printer and click Add.
  4. Print the Test page:
    • Print a test page to confirm the setup.

USB Setup (Wired Setup):

  1. Download Drivers:
    • Download the driver package from the bottom of the page.
    • Once the installation is completed , run the file.
  2. Connect the USB Cable to your printer:
    • Plug the USB cable to your printer and the other end to your Mac.
    • On your Mac click on the system preference option.
    • Now click on Printer and Scanners.
    • The available printers list will appear on the screen, select your Canon GM2090.
  3. Print the Test page:
    • Print a test page to confirm the setup.

iOS only support Wireless Connections

  1. Connect to the Wifi:
    • Turn on your Canon GM2090.
    • Make sure your Iphone/Ipad is connected to the secure internet connection.
    • Ensure that your printer and device are on the same network.
  2. Install the Canon PRINT Inkjet/SELPHY App:
    • Go to the app store.
    • Search for the “Canon PRINT Inkjet/SELPHY App”.
    • Download and install the app.
  3. Add printer:
    • Go to the Canon PRINT Inkjet/SELPHY app.
    • Now follow the on-screen instructions to add your printer.
    • App will search for the available printers, Select your Canon GM2090 from the available list. 
    • Click on Add printer.
  4. Print the Test page:
    • Print a test page to confirm the setup.
  1. Install the Canon PRINT Inkjet/SELPHY App: 
    • Download the app from the play store.
  2. Add the printer on the app:
    • Click on the add icon on the phone.
    • Now click on the register printer.
    • Select your Canon GM2090.
    • Now the printer is installed on your phone.
  3. Print the Test page:
    • Print a test page to confirm the setup.

Wireless/Wi-fi:

  1. Connect the printer to Wifi connection:
    • Choose your wifi connection from the available networks.
    • Enter the password.
    • Wait until the printer displays connected.
  2. Add Printer:
    • Click the Settings icon.
    • In the Settings menu, click on Advanced at the bottom.
    • Click Printing and then Printers.
    • Your Canon GM2090 should appear in the list if it’s connected to the same Wi-Fi.
    • Click Add.
  3. Print the Test page:
    • Print a test page to confirm the setup.

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. Printer not connecting to wifi:
    • Possible Causes: Incorrect password, weak, signal or outdated firmware.
    • Ensure your Wi-Fi password is correct
    • Place the printer close to the router
    • Re-run Easy Wireless Connect 
    • Press Setup >Wi-Fi Setup >Easy Wireless Connect
    • Restart the router and printer
    • Check for firmware updates via Canon’s official website
  2. Print Not Detected by computer or mobile:
    • Ensure both printer and device are on the same Wi-Fi network
    • Restart your printer and device
    • Reinstall the Canon PRINT Inkjet/SELPHY app (for mobile)
    • For USB connection, ensure the cable is securely connected
    • On Windows/Mac, reinstall the printer driver
  3. Paper Jam:
    • Turn off the printer
    • Gently remove jammed paper from the rear tray, output slot, or inside the printer
    • Check for torn paper pieces
    • Restart the printer
  4. Poor Print Quality (Faded, Streaks, Missing Colors)
    • Check ink levels and replace cartridges if needed
    • Run Print Head Cleaning:
    • Press Setup >Maintenance>Cleaning
    • Perform Print Head Alignment via the same menu Ensure you’re using compatible paper
