Setting it up on Windows

1. Unpack the printer and connect it to a power outlet.
2. Turn on the printer and install the black ink bottles as per the manual.
3. Load paper into the paper tray.
4. Download drivers from the bottom of the page.
5. Run the installer and follow the on-screen instructions.
6. Choose your connection method:
7. USB – connect the USB cable when prompted. Wi-Fi – press and hold the Wi-Fi button until the lamp flashes, then use the Canon Print app or software wizard.
8. Complete the setup and install any additional software as needed.
9. Print a test page to verify the installation.

Setting it up on Mac

It is not compatible with Mac, as officially stated by Canon.

Setting it up on Chromebook

It is not compatible with traditional Chromebook OS systems

Setting it up on Android

1. Turn on the printer and ensure it’s connected to Wi-Fi.
2. On your Android device, go to the Google Play Store and download the Canon Print app.
3. Open the app and tap “Add Printer” > “Register Printer” > “Connect via Wireless Router”.
4. The app will search for printers connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
5. When the GM2040 appears, tap it to register the printer.
6. If it doesn’t appear, press and hold the Wi-Fi button on the printer until the lamp flashes, then follow the app’s instructions to connect.
7. Print a test page to confirm setup

Setting it up on iOS

1. Power on the printer and connect it to your Wi-Fi network.
2. On your iPhone or iPad, download the Canon Print app from the App Store.
3. Open the app and tap “Add Printer”.
4. The app will search for the printer on the same Wi-Fi network.
5. When the GM2040 appears, tap to register the printer.
6. If it doesn’t show, press and hold the Wi-Fi button on the printer until the wireless lamp flashes, then follow the app’s instructions to connect.
7. Print a test page to confirm setup.

Troubleshooting Options

• Check the power:

Check the printer plug and the wall outlet both are securely connected

• Check the cartridges:

Make sure the ink cartridges are placed correctly. There should be enough ink and cartridges should be compatible with the model of the printer

• Check paper:

If the papers are not arranged correctly, take out the paper tray and straighten them up. There should be no jams in the printer

• Check WiFi connection:

Ensure your printer and device are connected to the same network

Make sure that the WiFi connection is stable

• Reset the printer:

Resetting the printer can resolve many issues

• Update printer drivers:

If drivers are outdated, check for newer ones
