Unboxing & Initial Setup
- Take the printer out of the box.
- Take out all the accessories and remove the packaging.
- Remove and discard the protective tape from outside and inside.
- Connect the power cord to turn the printer on.
- Install the toner cartridges.
- Load paper into the paper trays.

Canon G7040 setup on Windows
- Plug the Canon G7040 into your network using an Ethernet cable or connect via USB directly to your Windows PC.
- Ensure the machine is turned on and ready.
- Download drivers from the bottom of the page
- Open the downloaded setup file and follow the installation prompts.
- The installer will search for the printer on your network or via USB—select the correct device when it appears.
- Finish the setup and allow Windows to register the device.
- Go to “Devices and Printers” in the Control Panel to set default preferences (e.g., paper size, print quality).
- Print a test page to ensure everything works correctly.
Canon G7040 setup on macOS
- Use an Ethernet cable to connect the G7040 to your network, or use USB for direct connection.
- Turn on the printer and ensure it is in ready status.
- Download drivers from the bottom of the page
- Open the downloaded .dmg file and follow the on-screen instructions to install the driver.
- Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners, click the “+” button, and select the Canon 7040 from the list of available devices.
- Ensure the correct Canon driver is selected (not AirPrint) for full functionality.
- Set default print options such as paper size and print quality.
- Print a test page to confirm successful setup.
Canon G7040 setup on iPhone & iPad
- Ensure the Canon G7040 is turned on and connected to the same Wi-Fi or wired network as your iPhone or iPad.
- Download the Canon Print Business app from the App Store.
- Launch the app and allow any required permissions (e.g., access to photos or local network).
- The app will automatically search for Canon printers on your network. Select the Canon 7040 when it appears.
- Tap the “+”, enter the printer’s IP address, and connect manually.
- Use the app to select a document or photo from your device or cloud storage.
- Set paper size, color options, and number of copies as needed.
- Tap Print to send the job to the printer.
- Check the printer to ensure successful printing.
Canon G7040 setup on Android
- Ensure the Canon G7040 is powered on and connected to the same Wi-Fi or wired network as your Android device.
- Download the Canon Print Business app from the Google Play Store.
- Launch the app and accept any necessary permissions (e.g., access to files or network).
- The app will search for available Canon printers on the network.
- Select the Canon G7040 from the list.
- If not detected automatically, tap Manual IP, enter the printer’s IP address, and connect.
- Set preferences such as paper size, orientation, and number of copies within the app.
- Choose a file from your device or cloud storage to print
- Tap Print to start printing.
- Check the printer for successful output.
Canon G7040 setup on Chromebook
- Ensure the Canon G7040 is connected to the same Wi-Fi or wired network as your Chromebook.
- Make sure the device is powered on and ready.
- Click the time in the lower-right corner, then go to Settings > Advanced > Printing.
- Click Printers > Add Printer. Enter a name (e.g., “Canon G7040”), the printer’s IP address, and set the protocol to IPP.
- Choose Canon as the manufacturer and find the closest matching model. If not listed, use Generic PostScript Printer (PS).
- Go to Printers again and set the Canon G7040 as the default if desired.
- Print a test document to verify successful connection and functionality.
Troubleshooting Steps
- Check the power:
- Check the printer plug and the wall outlet both are securely connected
- Check the cartridges:
- Make sure the ink cartridges are placed correctly. There should be enough ink and cartridges should be compatible with the model of the printer
- Check paper:
- If the papers are not arranged correctly, take out the paper tray and straighten them up. There should be no jams in the printer
- Check WiFi connection:
- Ensure your printer and device are connected to the same network
- Make sure that the Wi-Fi connection is stable
- Reset the printer:
- Resetting the printer can resolve many issues
- Update printer drivers:
- If drivers are outdated, check for newer ones
