Unboxing & Initial Setup
- Take the printer out of the box.
- Take out all the accessories and remove the packaging.
- Remove and discard the protective tape from outside and inside.
- Connect the power cord to turn the printer on.
- Install the toner cartridges.
- Load paper into the paper trays.

Canon G5040 setup on Windows
- Remove all packaging materials. Plug in the printer and turn it on.
- Open the ink tank covers and fill the tanks using the supplied ink bottles.
- Close all covers securely.
- Load plain paper into the rear tray or front cassette.
- Download drivers from the bottom of the page
- Launch the setup program and follow on-screen instructions to connect the printer via USB, Wi-Fi, or Ethernet.
- Select “Wireless LAN Connection” during setup and follow prompts to connect to your Wi-Fi network.
- Allow the software to detect the printer and finish driver installation.
- Run a test print to confirm successful installation.
Canon G5040 setup on macOS
- Remove all packaging materials, plug in the printer, and turn it on.
- Open the ink tank covers and fill each tank with the corresponding ink bottle. Close the lids securely.
- Insert plain paper into the rear tray or front cassette.
- Download drivers from the bottom of the page
- Open the downloaded setup file and follow the on-screen instructions.
- Choose “Wireless LAN Connection” during setup to connect the printer to your Wi-Fi network, or use USB temporarily if needed.
- Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners, click Add (+), and select your Canon G5040 from the list.
- Confirm the installation by printing a test document.
Canon G5040 setup on iPhone & iPad
- Remove all packaging materials, plug in the printer, and turn it on.
- Open the ink tank covers and fill each tank with the corresponding ink bottle. Close the lids securely.

Canon G5040 setup on Android
- Plug in the Canon G5040, turn it on, and ensure ink tanks are filled and paper is loaded.
- Use the printer’s control panel or the WPS button (if your router supports it) to connect the printer to your Wi-Fi network.
- Go to the Google Play Store and install the Canon Print app.
- Launch the app and follow the on-screen instructions to detect and add the Canon G5040.
- Ensure your phone is on the same Wi-Fi network.
- Allow necessary permissions for the app to access your files, camera, and location (if required for setup).
- Select a document or photo in the app and tap Print to confirm everything is working.
Canon G5040 setup on Chromebook
- Unbox the printer, plug it in, turn it on, and fill the ink tanks as instructed.
- Use the printer’s control panel to connect it to your Wi-Fi network (refer to the manual for step-by-step Wi-Fi setup).
- Ensure Chromebook is Connected to Same Wi-Fi:
- Make sure your Chromebook is connected to the same wireless network as the printer.
- Click on the time in the bottom-right corner > Settings > scroll down to Advanced > Printing > Printers.
- Your Canon G5040 should appear in the list. Select it and click Add.
- Open a document or webpage, press Ctrl + P, and select your Canon printer to print.
Troubleshooting Steps
- Check the power:
- Check the printer plug and the wall outlet both are securely connected
- Make sure the ink cartridges are placed correctly. There should be enough ink and cartridges should be compatible with the model of the printer
- Check paper:
- If the papers are not arranged correctly, take out the paper tray and straighten them up. There should be no jams in the printer
- Check Wi-Fi connection:
- Ensure your printer and device are connected to the same network
- Make sure that the Wi-Fi connection is stable
- Reset the printer:
- Resetting the printer can resolve many issues
- Update printer drivers:
- If drivers are outdated, check for newer ones
