Overview
The Canon PIXMA G2420 is an upgraded, multifunctional MegaTank printer designed for high-efficiency home and small office use. Like the G2416, it is a 3-in-1 device (print, scan, copy), but it belongs to a newer generation featuring improved speed, a more informative display, and easier self-maintenance.
Features
- Massive Yield & Economy Mode: Delivers up to 6,000 pages in black (7,600 in Economy mode) and 7,700 pages in color from a single set of bottles.
- User-Replaceable Maintenance Cartridge: A significant upgrade over older models; you can replace the maintenance (waste ink) cartridge yourself to avoid service center visits.
- Enhanced Control: Features a 2-line Mono LCD, which provides clearer status updates and easier navigation than the simple segment displays on older models.
- High-Speed Quality: Slightly faster mono printing (9.1 ipm) and improved media handling for banners (up to 1.2m) and specialized papers like magnetic or restickable photo paper.
- No-Mess Refilling: Uses “key-type” ink bottles that only fit their designated color tank, preventing accidental mixing.
Unboxing & Initial Setup

Connection Setup
- USB Connection:
- Connect the printer to your PC using a USB cable.
- The system should automatically detect the printer and install the driver if it wasn’t installed earlier.
Usage
- Access the printer via Control Panel > Devices and Printers or using the Canon software for enhanced printing and maintenance options.

Connection Setup
- USB Connection:
- Connect the printer to your Mac using a USB cable.
- Open System Preferences > Printers & Scanners > Add (+).
- Select the G2420 from the list or add it using its IP address if prompted.
Usage
- Use Canon software or macOS tools like Preview for printing.
Canon G2420 setup on iPhone & iPad
The Canon G2420 does not support direct printing from iOS devices due to its USB-only connectivity. To print from iOS:
- Use a computer connected to the G2420 as an intermediary.
- Share the printer via the computer and use AirPrint software such as HandyPrint or Printopia.
Canon G2420 setup on Android
The Canon G2420 does not natively support Android due to its USB-only connection. To print from Android:
- Connect the printer to a computer, and share it with the Android device over the network.
- Use Google Cloud Print or a similar app, if available, to facilitate the printing process.
Canon G2420 setup on Chromebook
The Canon G2420 has limited support for ChromeOS. You can attempt the following:
- Connect the printer to a computer that shares printing capabilities with your Chromebook.
- Alternatively, use a USB adapter to connect the printer directly to your Chromebook (if supported by the OS).
Usage
- Print documents directly from Chrome or Google Docs by selecting the shared printer.
