Unboxing & Initial Setup
- Unbox the printer and remove all protective materials.
- Install the ink bottles into their respective tanks.
- Plug in the printer and turn it on.
- Load preferred paper into the rear paper tray.
- Connect the printer to Chromebook using a USB cable.

Canon MegaTank G1831 setup on Windows
- Unbox the printer and remove all packaging materials, including protective tapes and plastic.
- Fill the ink tanks using the provided GI-71 ink bottles, matching each color to the correct tank.
- Connect the power cable to the printer and plug it into a power outlet.
- Turn on the printer using the power button.
- Load preferred paper into the rear paper tray.
- Connect the printer to your Windows PC using a USB cable.
- Download drivers from the bottom of the page
- Run the driver installation and follow the on-screen instructions.
- During setup, the software may prompt you to align the print head; follow the instructions to complete this step.
- Once setup is complete, print a test page to ensure everything is working properly.
Canon MegaTank G1831 setup on macOS
- Unbox the printer and remove all packaging materials, including tapes and plastic.
- Install the ink bottles into the corresponding tanks, following the instructions in the manual.
- Plug in the power cord and turn on the printer.
- Load desired paper size into the rear paper tray.
- Use a USB cable to connect the printer to your Mac.
- On your Mac, open System Preferences and go to Printers & Scanners.
- Click the ”+” button to add a printer, and select the Canon G1831 from the list of available printers.
- If the printer doesn’t appear, download the necessary drivers from the bottom of the page
- Follow the on-screen instructions to install the drivers.
- After installation, you may need to align the print head as prompted by the software.
- Print a test page to confirm the printer is working properly
Canon MegaTank G1831 setup on iPhone & iPad
- Install Canon Print App from the App Store
- Use Wi-Fi or Access Point Mode:
- On the printer, press and hold the Wi-Fi button until the Power lamp flashes three times.
- On your iOS device, go to Settings > Wi-Fi and connect to the network starting with “Canon_ij.”
- Launch the app on your iPhone or iPad.
- Tap the printer icon and select Detect Printer. Choose the Canon G1831 from the available list.
- Use the app to print documents, photos, or images directly from your iOS device.
- User can also print from any app that supports AirPrint by selecting Print and choosing the Canon printer.
Canon MegaTank G1831 setup on Android
- Install Canon Print App from the Google Play Store.
- Connect Printer to Android Device. Use Wi-Fi or Access Point Mode:
- On the printer, press and hold the Wi-Fi button until the POWER lamp flashes three times.
- On your Android device, go to Settings > Wi-Fi and connect to the network starting with “Canon_ij.”
- Launch the Canon Print app and tap the printer icon.
- Select Detect Printer and choose the Canon G1831 from the list.
- Use the app to print your documents or images directly from your Android device.
- Install and activate the Canon Print Service plugin from the Play Store, then print from any supported app.
Canon MegaTank G1831 setup on Chromebook
- Connect the printer to Chromebook using a USB cable.
- On Chromebook, click the time in the bottom-right corner, then click the Settings gear icon.
- Scroll down and select Advanced, then go to Printing.
- Under Printers, click Add Printer.
- Canon G1831 should appear in the list of available printers. Select it.
- If it doesn’t show up, download the necessary drivers from the bottom of the page.
- Once added, set it as your default printer if desired.
- Print a test page to ensure everything is working correctly.
