Unboxing & Initial Setup

  1. Carefully unpack your CanoScan LiDE 400 scanner and remove all the protective materials.
  2. Connect the provided USB cable to the USB port on your computer and the other end to the USB port on the scanner.

Canon LiDE 400 setup on Windows

  1. Software Installation: Insert the setup CD provided with the scanner into your computer’s CD drive. If your computer doesn’t have a CD drive, you can download the latest software and drivers from the Canon support website. Follow the on-screen prompts to install the necessary software and drivers.
  2. Positioning the Scanner: Place the scanner on a flat and stable surface near your computer. Make sure it is within reach of the USB cable so that it can be connected to your computer.
  3. Scanner Setup: Turn on your computer and let it boot up. Once it is ready, turn on the CanoScan LiDE 300 scanner by pressing the power button located on the front panel of the scanner.
  4. Scanning Software: Launch the scanning software installed during the software installation process. If the software does not automatically open, you can usually find it in the u0022Startu0022 menu or by searching for the scanner’s model name.
  5. Adjusting Settings: Before scanning, you may want to adjust the scanning settings such as resolution, color mode, and file format according to your preferences. These options can usually be found in the scanning software’s settings or preferences menu.
  6. Placing Documents or Photos: Open the scanner lid and place the document or photo face-down on the glass scanning surface. Align it to the top-left corner or follow any alignment guides provided on the scanner.
  7. Scanning: In the scanning software, click on the u0022Scanu0022 button to start the scanning process. The scanner will begin scanning your document or photo, and the scanned image will be displayed on your computer screen.

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. Check the power connection.
  2. Check the lock switch.
  3. Uninstall drivers or try to install new drivers.
  4. If you see Slow or Hanging issues reduce scan resolution in the software (e.g., from 1200 dpi to 300 dpi).
  5. If there are Lines / Streaks on Scans clean the scanner glass with a microfiber cloth and mild glass cleaner.
