The Canon PIXMA iP8770 is a premium A3+ photo printer designed for photography enthusiasts and professionals who require high-quality prints. With a 6-color ink system that includes gray ink, the iP8770 delivers detailed and vibrant color prints with smooth gradation. It supports wireless printing, allowing users to print directly from smartphones, tablets, or computers. This guide will assist you with the setup process, including driver installation and printer connection options.

Unboxing & Initial Setup
- Remove the Canon PIXMA iP8770 from its packaging, along with all the included accessories, such as the ink cartridges, power cable, and setup CD.
- Open the printer’s ink compartment and install the provided ink cartridges, following the color-coded slots.
- Adjust the paper guides in the rear tray and load the desired paper size (A3+, A4, etc.).
- Plug the power cable into the printer and connect it to a power outlet. Press the power button to turn on the printer.

Canon iP8770 setup on Windows
Setting up Canon PIXMA iP8770 – Windows (Wi-fi):
- Prepare the Printer:
Tap the home button.
Choose wireless LAN connection.
Connect your wireless router.
Click Cableless setup.
Select the wireless router of your home or office.
Enter the password.
- Download the Drivers:
Insert the CD and run the setup.
- Print the Test page:
Print a test page to confirm the setup.
USB Setup (Wired Setup):
- Download the Drivers:
Download and install the necessary drivers from the bottom of the page.
Once the driver installation is completed, run the installed file.
- Connect the USB Cable to your printer:
Plug the USB cable to your printer and the other end to your PC.
Go to the settings of your PC.
Search for bluetooth and devices.
Click on Printers and Scanners.
From the available printers list select your Canon PIXMA iP8770.
- Print the Test page:
Print a test page to confirm the setup.
Canon iP8770 setup on macOS
Setting up Canon PIXMA iP8770 – Mac (Wi-fi):
- Prepare the printer:
Tap the home button.
Choose wireless LAN connection.
Connect your wireless router.
Click Cableless setup.
Select the wireless router of your home or office.
Enter the password.
- Download Drivers:
Insert the CD and run the setup.
- Add Printer:
Open the system preferences > Printers & Scanners.
Select your printer and click Add.
- Print the Test page:
Print a test page to confirm the setup.
USB Setup (Wired Setup):
- Download Drivers:
Download the driver package from the bottom of the page.
Once the installation is completed , run the file.
- Connect the USB Cable to your printer:
Plug the USB cable to your printer and the other end to your Mac.
On your Mac click on the system preference option.
Now click on Printer and Scanners.
The available printers list will appear on the screen, select your Canon PIXMA iP8770.

Canon iP8770 setup on iPhone & iPad
Setting up Canon PIXMA iP8770 – IOS:
- Connect to the Wifi:
Turn on your Canon PIXMA iP8770.
Make sure your Iphone/Ipad is connected to the secure internet connection.
Ensure that your printer and device are on the same network.
- Install the Canon PRINT Inkjet/SELPHY App:
Go to the app store.
Search for the “Canon PRINT Inkjet/SELPHY App”.
Download and install the app.
- Add printer:
Go to the Canon PRINT Inkjet/SELPHY app.
Now follow the on-screen instructions to add your printer.
App will search for the available printers, Select your Canon PIXMA iP8770 from the available list.
Click on Add printer.
- Print the Test page:
Print a test page to confirm the setup.
Canon iP8770 setup on Android
Setting up Canon PIXMA iP8770 – Android:
- Install the Canon PRINT Inkjet/SELPHY App:
Download the app from the play store.
- Add the printer on the app:
Click on the add icon on the phone.
Now click on the register printer.
Select your Canon PIXMA iP8770.
Now the printer is installed on your phone.
- Print the Test page:
Print a test page to confirm the setup.
Troubleshooting Steps
- No Power:
- Here are some common resolutions for fixing power issues:
- Make sure the power plug is firmly connected to the printer
- Make sure the main power switch is turned on
- Make sure that the wall outlet/plug adaptor/extension cable is functional by plugging in a different device
- Printer not turned off:
- When your printer is connected to a computer via a USB cable, if you press the printer’s ON button immediately after you turn off the computer, the printer may not turn off (ON lamp keeps flashing, LCD display does not turn off) in rare instances. If the printer is left in that condition for a long period of time, the temperature of the internal motor may rise, though it poses no safety hazard.
- It can be prevented by updating the printer firmware, which is available for Windows and Mac.
- Fixing the print quality
- Here are some common resolutions for fixing printing quality issues:
- Make sure the page size and media type settings match size and type of loaded paper
- Make sure appropriate print quality is selected
- Make sure of the estimated ink levels
- Make sure the print head nozzles are not clogged by performing nozzle check print
- Make sure the platen glass is not dirty (for copy)
- Make sure original is properly loaded on platen (for copy)
- Paper Jam:
- Solutions:
- Turn off the printer
- Gently remove jammed paper from the rear tray, output slot, or inside the printer
- Check for torn paper pieces
- Restart the printer
